About these terms

Parallax is operated by Charles Coombs-Esmail, an individual based in California, United States. These terms govern your use of the Parallax app and readparallax.app. References to “we,” “us” and “our” mean Charles Coombs-Esmail operating Parallax.

Please read these terms before using the service. If you do not agree, do not use it. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information. Accepting service terms is not a substitute for any separate privacy consent required by law.

Who can use Parallax

You must be at least 16 years old. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you must have your parent or legal guardian's permission to use the service. The initial public release is offered through the United States App Store.

You can use available guest features without an account. If you create an account, provide accurate information, protect your credentials, and contact us if you suspect unauthorized access. Do not impersonate another person or use someone else's account without authorization.

Learning and current-affairs content

Parallax provides educational and general-interest content about news, politics, economics and other subjects. It is not personalized financial, investment, legal, medical or other professional advice. Do not rely on it as the sole basis for decisions that require professional advice.

Content may use automated or AI-assisted production tools. Facts, explanations and interpretations can be incomplete, disputed or become outdated. We may correct, revise or remove material. Report an error or concern to [email protected].

Free content and Parallax Plus

Creating an account or using free content does not start a paid subscription. Free access does not automatically convert into a paid plan. Daily discourse, the designated introductory series, and the first chapter of other series are free. The app identifies the current introductory series.

Parallax Plus provides access to the full series library while your subscription is active. Monthly and annual plans are offered through Apple In-App Purchase. Your purchase screen shows the price, currency and billing period before you confirm. Some plans include a free trial for new subscribers, shown on the purchase screen with the date of the first charge. If you do not cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you are charged. Apple allows one introductory offer per person per subscription group. A launch plan sold for a limited time keeps its price for as long as that subscription stays active; the purchase screen says when this applies. A Parallax account is required to subscribe and restore access.

Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase, or when an applicable free trial ends. Subscriptions renew automatically unless canceled at least 24 hours before the current period ends. Apple charges renewal according to the terms shown at purchase. Manage or cancel your subscription in Apple subscription settings. Cancellation normally leaves access active until the paid period ends; refunds, revocation or unresolved billing issues may end access earlier.

Signing out, deleting your account or uninstalling the app does not cancel your subscription. Cancel separately through Apple. To restore an existing purchase, sign in to Parallax, use the Apple Account that made the purchase, and choose Restore purchases on the Plus page. Restoring does not recover deleted learning progress.

Apple handles payment and refund requests under its policies and applicable law. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com. Contact us for help with access or billing records. Nothing here limits mandatory refund or other consumer rights.

We may change the catalog and free selection over time, respecting commitments made at purchase and applicable notice and consumer-protection requirements. Changes to subscription pricing follow Apple's notice and consent requirements. These terms alone do not authorize a charge.

Permission to use the app and its content

Subject to these terms and any applicable app license, you may use Parallax for your personal, noncommercial learning. We retain rights in content and software we own; third-party material remains the property of its respective owners. Facts, ideas and rights granted by law are not claimed as our exclusive property.

You may share links and, where we hold the necessary rights, brief attributed excerpts or screenshots for personal discussion. This does not grant permission to republish whole chapters, redistribute the catalog, resell access or reuse third-party material beyond its license or applicable law. Statutory rights, including fair use where applicable, remain unaffected.

Do not attack or disrupt the service, bypass access controls, distribute malware, fraudulently access accounts, or use automated collection to reproduce the catalog without permission. These restrictions do not prevent activities protected by law.

Your information and account controls

You retain rights in information you provide. You permit us to process it as needed to provide the service, subject to the Privacy Policy and applicable law. Account profile and learning information are not public posts.

You can sign out at any time. To remove an account, use Delete account in the account section of the You tab, or contact us if you cannot access it. Deletion is different from signing out or uninstalling. The Privacy Policy describes the deletion process and any limited retention.

Availability and changes

We may improve or change features and content. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, a particular publishing schedule, or error-free content. Where a change materially affects a paid entitlement or a specific promise we made, we will respect applicable notice, refund and consumer-protection requirements.

We may restrict or end access where reasonably necessary to address a material breach of these terms, security threats or legal requirements. Where practicable and lawful, we will explain the reason and provide a way to contact us about it.

Responsibility and your legal rights

To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties that it will meet every need or be continuously available. To the extent permitted by law, we are not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the service.

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, removes mandatory consumer protections, or limits a remedy the law requires us to provide. These terms do not require arbitration or waive participation in a class action.

Apple and other services

If you obtain the app through Apple's App Store, Apple's applicable store terms and standard application EULA also apply. These service terms do not replace that EULA or your agreement with Apple. Apple does not operate Parallax or provide its content support.

Links to third-party websites and services are provided for reference. Those services have their own terms and privacy practices, and we do not control them.

Governing law, changes and contact

These terms are governed by California law, subject to any mandatory protections that apply where you live. No exclusive court location is imposed by these terms.

We may update these terms. We will give reasonable notice of material changes through the app, website or email before they take effect, except where a faster change is necessary for legal or security reasons. Changes do not retroactively remove accrued rights. If you do not agree to updated terms, you can stop using the service and request account deletion.
